The Perfect Partnership: Strategy Meets Design

Working with Samantha Morris from Wombat Creative over the past three years has been an incredible collaboration, blending her sharp strategic communications expertise with my design wizardry. Together, we’ve supported her client, NRM Regions Queensland, on a range of transformative projects, including a complete rebrand, website redesign, and ongoing graphic design support.

Over the last year we’ve worked together on the ‘Nurturing Nature: Cultivating Culture’ campaign, an ambitious pre-election advocacy effort. Samantha’s strategy set the direction, and my role was to amplify her work through cohesive, impactful visuals that told a compelling story.

The Campaign at a Glance

Queensland is a state of extremes, with diverse landscapes and unique challenges—climate resilience, biodiversity, Indigenous heritage, land condition, and biosecurity among them. To address these issues, NRM Regions Queensland developed a $196.4 million plan to drive positive change.

The Nurturing Nature: Cultivating Culture campaign aimed to:

  • Advocate for sustainable funding for Queensland’s natural resource management.
  • Showcase the strategic thinking and on-ground impact of NRM Regions Queensland.
  • Secure commitments from political leaders to support the program.

Design Deliverables

For this campaign, I created a suite of materials that seamlessly paired with Samantha’s strategic comms:

  • A sub-brand for the campaign to differentiate it while maintaining alignment with the NRM corporate brand.
  • A long-format campaign brochure to showcase the vision and strategic priorities.
  • A website landing page for easy access to campaign information and key messages.
  • Event invitations for campaign launches and stakeholder gatherings.
  • Promotional materials for print and digital use.
  • Social media graphics to engage and inspire the community.

These materials were designed to ensure clarity, professionalism, and emotional resonance—qualities that were vital for the campaign’s success.

The Results: A Record-Breaking Milestone

The campaign achieved remarkable success, securing the first-ever bipartisan pre-election commitment to fund Queensland’s conservation efforts. The LNP’s $117.84 million pledge for 2024–2028 is a testament to the power of cohesive strategy and design.
