Ultimately, it’s about her healing and growth. The task was to create a book cover that would capture the complexity of her journey—balancing both the darkness of her past and the light she found through her personal transformation.

It was important to convey the complexity of Ebonie’s journey from loss to healing, while honouring the personal and vulnerable nature of her story. The cover needed to express both the darkness of her past and the light she found through growth.
The cover design features a portrait of Ebonie with transparent layers, allowing the rising sun to shine through the clouds — a powerful metaphor for light emerging from darkness. This symbol of growth and healing was paired with a beach backdrop, evoking the sense of where Ebonie grew up, grounding her journey in her personal experience. The solid sans serif font for the title ensures clarity and impact, while the handwritten subheading reflects the intimate and personal nature of the memoir. Additionally, I worked closely with Healing House Publishing and Ebonie to design the internal layout and prepare files for Ingram Spark print-on-demand publishing, ensuring a seamless production process.
