NRM Regions Queensland approached me with a significant challenge: to rebrand their organisation while honouring their existing identity. As the representative body for Natural Resource Management (NRM) in Queensland, their goal was to elevate their presence while connecting the diverse regions under one cohesive visual identity. Together, we embarked on a journey that blended both legacy and innovation.
As a seasoned design expert, I specialise in delivering impactful branding and digital solutions for organisations like NRM Regions Queensland. My approach combines creativity with strategy to create visual identities and websites that resonate deeply with their audiences. From rebranding and web design to ongoing updates and campaign collateral, my mission is to ensure my clients’ visual communications not only stand out but also drive engagement.
The task was clear: NRM Regions Queensland wanted to refresh their branding to represent the broad spectrum of environmental work they oversee, while staying connected to their established identity. Their challenge was to communicate the unity of the 12 regional NRM organisations under one umbrella while embracing the diversity of Queensland’s landscapes and natural resources. A design solution was needed that could encompass both tradition and progress, with flexibility for growth.
The new branding retained core elements from the original design, including the use of blues and greens to symbolise water and vegetation. To reflect Queensland’s diverse ecosystems, I introduced earthy tones — yellows, oranges, and browns — evoking the state’s wide-ranging landscapes. The updated logo features wavy lines representing the natural contours of waterways, dunes, and weather patterns, while the various colours represent the distinct regions coming together as one cohesive force.
An Indigenous artist contributed a pattern within the logo, honouring the cultural significance of the land, and adding a unique touch that connects deeply with Queensland’s heritage.
For the website, I built a communication tool that would be easy to navigate and serve as a central hub for information. A dynamic map of Queensland was created using a plugin, dividing the state into the 12 NRM regions. The map highlights each region upon hover, allowing users to click through to their specific regional website for targeted information. A blog roll was integrated, curating resources specific to each region and enhancing user experience.
This combination of thoughtful design and functional website features ensures NRM Regions Queensland remains adaptable as it continues to grow and expand its work, while maintaining a strong, unified brand.
Since the initial rebrand and website design, NRM Regions Queensland has continued to work with me for various design needs, including annual reports, campaign materials, and website updates. My recent work on their state election campaign (Nurturing Nature: Cultivating Culture) played a key role in securing $117.84 million to fund Queensland’s conservation efforts. My ongoing collaboration with them ensures that their visual identity and online presence remain cohesive and aligned with their mission to promote and protect Queensland’s vital natural resources.
